Contact Lens Options
Extended Wear – Designed to be worn overnight for up to 1 month, these lenses allow oxygen to reach the cornea. The amount of wear depends on the type of lens and the advice of an eye care professional. These lenses are commonly worn for 7 or 30 days and then thrown away. When they are removed, they should be cleaned properly before being worn again.
Disposable – Daily contact lenses are disposable. They are designed to be used once and then thrown away after they are used. Soft lenses that have a weekly or monthly replacement schedule are considered extended wear lenses.
Soft – Created from soft plastic, they let oxygen pass through. Because they are often more comfortable, there is less of an adjustment period for wear than rigid gas permeable lenses.
Rigid Gas Permeable – More durable than soft contact lenses, Rigid Gas Permeable or RGP lenses tend to be more cost-effective. They are less likely to tear but require an adjustment period for wear as they are not quite as comfortable.
Hybrid – Provides the benefit of vision correction of a hard lens and the comfort of a soft contact lens. The centre of the lens is a rigid gas permeable while the surrounding lens is soft.
Ortho-K – Ortho-Keratology also referred to as Ortho-K, this process uses rigid gas permeable lenses to change the shape of your cornea. Commonly used for patients with astigmatism, Ortho-K lenses help your eye focus more accurately. Vision correction is temporary because the cornea returns to its original shape.
Decorative – Also called Plano, zero-power or decorative lenses, these lenses are not meant for corrective purposes. They can offer the ability to change the colour and the look for your eye.
